This quote: “Family, like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one” most likely describes my family. My dad (Ashok) and mom’s (Reena) families are from Kerala but they live in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. My sister (Amritha) moved to Bangalore, Karnataka to attend University while I moved to Houston, Texas to pursue a Ph.D.
I am older than my sister by only 15 months. We literally grew up together and at some point when we were younger, people thought we were twins.
In Dec 2008, my sister got married to Rahul, whose family lives in Goa with ancestral family roots in Portugal. In May 2013, they had lovely twins, Zoe and Jayden. They were born the same day that the football club, FC Bayern Munich won the European Champions League title. Amritha and her family emigrated to Australia in 2016.
In 2009, I met a girl from Germany who was working in Houston at the time. We decided that marriage was in the cards for us and had our civil wedding ceremony in Dec 2011 in Houston. In the summer of 2012, we had a church ceremony and reception in Erkrath, a small town close to Düsseldorf. This is where my wife, Stefanie grew up and her parents stay. Pictures from the wedding and reception are below.
By the end of 2016, my family will be on three separate continents, my parents in India, my sister and family in Australia, and us in Munich, Germany.
